Roderick Lamar Jones, Sr. was born as the only child on September 25, 1943 in Birmingham, AL to the late Howard Jones and the late Rosa Lee Thurman. After extended illnesses, he was called home to be with the Lord on the evening of March 2, 2023. He was raised by his father and the late Doris Taylor Jones. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Bettye Jean Jones.
Roderick was of the Catholic faith. He was a dedicated and committed parishioner of Saints Peter and Paul Catholic church in Decatur, Georgia for over fifty years. He served as President of the Men’s Club and the Stewardship Committee. He was a 3rd Degree KPC 313 and 4th Degree Archbishop Lyke Assembly 43.
He attended and graduated from Western Olin High School. After graduating from high school, he attended Florida A&M University for a short period of time before enlisting in the United States Army from 1962-1969. After being honorably discharged, he began his career as a Programmer with Honeywell. Shortly after, he became employed with the Internal Revenue Service as a System Analyst for 27 years. Roderick met Derlyn in 1993 and they were married on July 22, 1995. He will definitely be remembered as a loving, dedicated, kind, and caring husband who loved his family.
He leaves to cherish his memories to his loving wife, Derlyn Turner Jones; daughters, Angela D. (Tim) Kidd and Jamila (Oscar) McGuire; son, Roderick Jones, Jr.; grandchildren, Nikita Burke, Markeisha Statham, Akerra Lucas, Marcus Lucas, Alexandria Jones, Phylicia Kidd, and Timothy Kidd, Jr.; great grandchildren; dear friend, Rudine Tucker; and a host of other relatives and friends.
