Certus Strickland affectionately known as “Papa” was born September 18, 1942 to the late Clarence Strickland and the late Louise Parks Strickland in Buford, Georgia. Certus answered the Lord’s call home on Friday, October 28, 2022 at The Oaks Nursing Home in Baldwin, Georgia after an extended illness. Certus was preceded in death by his brothers, Joe and Ed Strickland; and sister, Lucy Mae Young.
Certus was educated in the Buford Georgia School System. He worked in the poultry services driving trucks for over 30 years. Certus was a gentle soul, soft-spoken, a loving husband and father. He loved working in the yard, working on cars, watching TV (cowboy shows, wrestling and “All my Children”). He found God at an early age and was a member of Mt. Zion Baptist Church in Flowery Branch, Georgia.
Certus was joined in Holy Matrimony to Frankie E. Tate and to this union three children were born. He leaves to cherish his memories to his wife of 60 years, Frankie E. Strickland; two sons, Curtis E. “Baby Curt” (Celeste) Strickland and James Strickland; daughter, Eartheria A. (Michael Hendrix) Finch, all of Gainesville, GA; grandchildren, Kayla Strickland, Seneca Young, Brandon (April) Strickland, Joshua Collins, and Monquise Ware; great-grandchildren, Emory Barnett, Jayla Collins, Jamel Barnett, Aveion Young, Deshun Borders, Finesse Borders, Ava Lott, Kashon Borders, Cam Henderson, Kaydence Morgan, Brandon Strickland, Jr., Amiyan Strickland, Ayden Strickland, and Braydon Strickland; sister-in-laws, Mary Tate, Millicent Tate, and Phyllis Birt; brother-in-laws, George Tate, Bentz (Virginia) Tate, and Harvey “Ted” Young; godchildren, Jackie Herring and Salena Young; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Funeral service will be held Sunday, November 6, 2022, at 1 pm at Dexter T. Sims Mortuary, LLC in the Rev. Charlie, Jr. and Conchita Sims Memorial Chapel. Viewing will be Saturday, November 5, 2022, from 3 pm-6 pm.
